ALASKA!!! (Part I)

Okay, so this is long overdue, but this is my entry on our 2-week trip to Alaska at the end of June...

Day 1 - Getting There

Not much to say for Day 1, but I saved my flight until the afternoon so that I wasn't rushing around in the morning to make sure I got to the airport early enough. So what did I do? I left a half hour later than I wanted to anyway. No problems though. Being on a plane for like 10 hours wasn't all that fun, but survivable. When we were getting closer to Anchorage it seemed to be getting lighter outside, which was odd since we were landing at like 12:30 AM. Made it to Alaska!
Had some company...

Day 2 - Expo & Anchorage

When we got up Friday morning to go to the expo, I got my first real glance of Alaska.

Expo was pretty small, but not too bad. As expected, I suppose. We met a couple of girls from Michigan and got our packets and all. We then headed down to the running store to check it out. I saw some moose running socks and, well, how could I pass those up?? :)

Downtown Anchorage

There were an unsurprising amount of gift shops and touristy stores in town. Lots of random art too. One of the great things about Alaska for me is the amount of moose stuff that is in town. There was an alley with some pretty awesome murals. It's too bad there were also dumpsters and parked cars. But still pretty cool!

After some walking around Anchorage we headed over for our pre-race dinner with the LVM crew. It was a small Italian place that was halfway decent, but nothing outstanding. I had chicken fettuccine alfredo, which is not uncommon for me. After dinner we headed back, watched Spirit of the Marathon and got some sleeps!

Another Facebook Funny

Apparently Facebookers who like Brian Regan also like The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Interesting.

Really, People?

A couple of things from Active.com and Facebook that to me just screamed "really? c'mon, really?"

Are you sure...? No, I didn't "like" work.

And from Active:
"Your comparing speeding to smoking pot? Are you kidding me? Speeding can kill someone."

Now, sure, that's an odd comparison, but the last part of that made me giggle. Smoking pot can kill someone the same way speeding can. The actual thing can't, but its results could. Well, that being said, can smoking too much marijuana kill you like an overdose of alcohol could? Also, I'm ignoring the blatant misuse of "your" :)

Hot! Hot! Hot!

It was disgusting out today. BWI broke the record by a whopping 4 degrees! 105 degrees! Insane!

Needless to say, I took my run inside (thankfully our softball games were canceled - the other team forfeited). I had a great run - probably the best you can have on a treadmill.

Tomorrow's supposed to be a cool 100.

Genealogy Humor

There are a few odd things you find when looking back at old records.

I, at least, think this may be a typo...found a guy's WWII record, which on Ancestry says he was 7'3" and 460 lbs. I suppose it's possible, and if it is, that guy was huge!!!

Early Summer

It was just about 90 degrees today. I'm not ready for that kind of heat. We haven't really had much of a Spring yet!! I'll post some pictures in a bit of the Kinetic Sculpture Race from today. It sure was interesting! We mostly saw the sand and mud obstacles. I forgot to put on the sunscreen I brought with me, so my face is pretty red. Hopefully it's not too painful tomorrow!

Ah'll Be Bach

Ok, I'm going to start writing again. Nothing now, except I wanted to share a funny ancestry find:

Jakob Kielbasa came over to the USA from Poland in 1909. Exciting, huh?
